Hallo to the non-greek speaking!
I suppose that you have already watched the videos of the Chinese wedding, which we have attended on Sunday. As we found out, this wedding was one of the three weddings of the couple. In
China the couples often make one wedding for the family of the groom, one for the family of the bride and one for the friends and colleagues. So we were invited to the last one. The setting was very different than what we are used to in
Europe. It kind of reminded us of a child’s birthday party, even though it was held in a fancy hotel’s hall.
The bride and groom were dressed up in a European way in the beginning and then the bride changed into Chinese dress. What was different in the whole wedding process, at least for me a greek is that there was karaoke (which is incredibly popular amongst the Chinese) and even games like taboo played between the bride and groom. There was no dancing, apart our dance and people were just sitting and chatting with each other.
Our performance was very much enjoyed, even though we had to modify it at the last moment because of lack of space. Unfortunately, we couldn't do the serbian flying thing that you can watch in one of the videos.I think they would have enjoyed it....but whatever! You can watch some parts of the dance on the video. We also sang the song “Love is all around me” from the movie “4 weddings and a funeral”, slightly off-key but we enjoyed it anyway! The thing is that they asked us to sing exactly after the dancing so everybody was tired and thirsty and couldn’t sing normally. But, all in all it has been a great experience. To be dancing greek dance with foreign friends in China, and have everybody enjoying it! I wasn’t expecting that!
In the new-added video you can see a part of our rehearsals, were my friends are improvising on the quick part of the song, that seemed to them like football something…
For those who can't hear, in the beginning I am asking David to repeat his Ronaldino trick and saying "ela, ela, ela"(means come on in greek), he says he's tired....and at the end Milos is telling me "Cut the crap and come here"!
